Gravecore Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1.We are a band formed in late January and February of 2014, and all started from an idea of Alberto (vocals) and David (guitar), who wanted to create a violent, raw and rude band without the frills that chracterize the majority of nowadays groups. We did some rehearsal a bit 'skeptical at first with Alex (drums) who was new into our genre; the first jam was so nice and productive and in just half an hour of recording there were taken songs such as “Jesus Hendrix”, “Fuck you”, “Hate, guide me”, “Space Pussy” and other riffs that we keep for the future. The next jam was characterized by a presence of bass guitar handled by Gabriel, who immediately integrated both musically and personally, bringing the super-fuckin’-power-distorted bass sound, together with lyrics and cool riffs. Our main target is to produce raw, wild, powerful music that hurts and punches the listener. We intend to slap the face with our sound and our rhythms: for this reason we alternate speed and slow parts to result killer parts. Each component brings something good, not just talking about their instrument: the fact is that it seems that we play together for a long time, but actually are just a few months we are playing together

2.Recently you have released a new ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the new recording?
2.The new ep was an adventure for us, because we registered 11 songs in 4 hours. It is not the final sound we wanted, especially the guitar and drums sound but in the future we will play and record more rough and natural. However, it’s sounds violent and raw (of course it is not a pop EP ahah). In particular the very distorted bass helps the one-tracked-guitar. The drum parts are quite particular for this genre because they’re not limited just to blast beats or skank beats . The guitar seems very heavy because of the drop C tuning. The vocals are very powerful and rough, In the future we think we will work more also on the back choirs that for the moment we do only on stage. All in all I would say that this ep contains a pretty good idea of the group: it says what we want and of course we won’t stop right there.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
3.Our songs speak mostly about satire, hatred spread in the entire world, films and horror books.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Gravecore'?
4.It’s quite simple, the initial idea was just to do grindcore mixed with hardcore music together with macabre lyrics themes . So we decided to called us Gravecore: has a nice sound, reminiscent of both genres from which we started. The original name was meant to be chainsaw cougar but it was hiked off along with more elaborated ideas. Gravecore is simple, it sounds good, it is raw, immediate, just like we want to be.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
5.Currently the best show we played was in Reggioemilia, in a festival called “Evo for Denis” where we played with the best italian grindcore band, “Cripple Bastards”. We also played in a festival in Turin and in another two gigs . We play together for a few months but we are aiming to play around a lot in the future.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
6.Our plan is to play everywhere and so much we can; we'd like to do a lot of concerts outside Italy because in our country the metal scene really sucks; although there are many good bands. If you don’t play outside Italy, there is the risk to remain a small band without a future. Now we are arranging a gig in Rome for the future. However we want to play wherever we can in order to know our music at other people,

7.The new ep was recorded at Mobsound Recording Studio in Milan, Italy, where you happy with the way your music came out in the studio?
7.We are happy how our music sounds in the studio; Alex of “Mobsound studios” was very professional and he done a good result despite having little time (4 hours) available and also gave us several useful tips. It was also very useful to understand what will be the final general sound of the band, which in this ep is a great starter.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal and grindcore?
8.We had great feedback's especially from fans of bands like Napalm Death. Our kind of music makes us appreciate both from the grindocore and 80s death metal “lovers” and even by those who listen to punk and hardcore.

9.Are the band members also involved with any other musical projects or bands?
9.Yes, all the components have other groups or at least the had one. Gabriel played for a year in a band called “Final Thrash” and for four years in Nuclear Chainsaw (formerly Ardath) Alberto was the singer in “Forged in blood” and also he plays bass guitar in a band called “Teddy's head from hell”. Alex has a solo project “Bleak Light”, a prog rock band “Deep” and he played for four years in his first group called “Wiccan”, that split up recently, where he met David (guitar) who played bass in that band. Alex and Davide immediately have gained a good musical understanding and they decided to start a Sludge Metal called "Again..." but now in on hiatus because Gravecore are their main band .They also started a stoner/doom project with the drummer of “Teddy's head from hell”.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
10.For a full-length album you need to wait, ‘cause we want to focus more on concerts and on song-composing. Maybe we'll do a split album with an another group before we record a full-length album, but it is just an idea at the moment. We play together for less than a year and we are working very quickly. So we don’t think it will take 'a lot before we do a full-length album; it also depends greatly on feedback that we have on stage.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
11.A lot of bands influenced us: “lock up”, “Napalm death”, “GG Allin”, “Stormtrupper of death”, “Morbid angel”, “Carcass”, “Sodom”, “Sepultura”, “Nailbomb”, “Anal cunt”, “Pantera”, “Superjoint ritual”, “Eyehategod”, and fuckin’ ABBA hahaha no they not. We listen to a lot of things outside of extreme metal genre and we try to listen to many underground bands.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?
12.Horror movies, tattoos, comics, b / z movies, beer (except Davide), Boobs ahah Our drummer likes bread (it also make it and makes us love it) and our guitarist shoots x-rays to people for survive ahah.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
13.Before ending this interview we want to thank you so much for the support and for the review that made us very happy. It is a nice feeling to know that someone liked Gravecore on another continent!, As we said in the future we will have our definitive sound, trying to put the same “Gravecore Sound” in the studio that we have on stage, because there is no comparison with the impact that we have had on our gigs. Again, thank you so much for the support. Stay Brudal, bitches.
